First Harvest

First harvest of my red currant tomato plant.  I ate one right after taking this shot...was delicious, very sweet.

Obsession

I’m obsessed. I stare at my tomatoes before I leave for work and I’m right there when I get home from work.
I nearly flipped out when I saw two tiny red bugs on one of the plants yesterday. I was told it could be red aphids but after closer inspection today, I’m thankful there hasn’t been an infestation. I think I have to continue to monitor the plants closely for any pests as my plants are beginning to flower and I see more tiny fruits!

My new hobby

A few weeks back, I went to the market to buy some heirloom tomato seedlings for my mom. I ended up talking to the people and Uharvest and was inspired to grow my own cherry tomatoes on my balcony. A trip to their retail store resulted in two black cherry tomatoes plants, two red currant cherry tomatoes plant and two basil plants. I planted them a little over a week ago and finally got my first fruit.

I’m contemplating growing baby carrots and lettuce but figure I should start small. Who knows, maybe I do have a green thumb and can expand to more veggies on my balcony garden next year. First-off, I just hope the weather co-operates so I can yield a harvest of fresh cherry tomatoes
